We don't really know how many hens we have, but we started out finding 2 eggs a day. Now we're up to four or five.

When it was time to enjoy them for breakfast, my husband found what we'd read on the internet to be quite true-- the shells are really tough! He had to whack the eggs several times with a force that would make a chicken egg into a puddle of shell and slime. The taste, however, wasn't so different from a farm-fresh chicken egg.
So fun! I love the variation of colors. We got some Easter Eggers to add to the flock this year to spice up our egg selection.
ReplyDeleteIt is fun. I'm sure your daughter loves the different colored eggs. What seems like eons ago, a friend gave us eggs and for a while she had some greens in with the browns. It was pretty cool.
DeleteThe Guinea hens we have are not really ours, though they pretty much live here now. I don't know if we've ever knowingly found one of their eggs. Our own chickens were free range for awhile and eggs were sometimes found in various locations or by the dogs. I can't remember if there were ever any that were really tough to crack. I'm pretty sure there haven't been any spotted ones. It's interesting, though. I guess we should have tried harder. :-)
ReplyDeleteSo far, we've found several either in their coop or just outside of it. BUT that doesn't mean some aren't hiding eggs away in a secret nest. We've plenty of spaces for that, too.
